Julian Mitchell (Epping, 1935) is a British author of novels, plays, and film and television scripts. He studied at Oxford and is known for the play Another Country, which won the SWET (now Olivier) Award for Best Play in 1981. The book was adapted into a film scripted by Mitchell himself and directed by Marek Kanievska. The film received the award for Best Artistic Contribution (1984) and boosted the successful careers of Rupert Everett and Colin Firth. According to the comic artist Tiziano Sclavi, watching the film Another Country led him to take Rupert Everett as a model for defining the features of the character Dylan Dog.
